“Big Journeys begin with a single step” so goes the Chinese proverb. Our Band has taken many steps to get to the 2007 season where we will begin competing in the National Class of the New York State Field Band Conference. Some have asked what we need to do differently as we have moved up. In fact, others think that we have been doing just that all along as we have grown to be competitive in the National Class.
In the past few seasons we have assembled the staff needed to take us to the top. Bruce McCready (who celebrates his fortieth year in the activity this season) continues to write our field show. Our Colorguard has been performing a Nation Class level for several years will be once again led by Tracy Bapst. Tom Anderson has produced what may be the most musical Drumline in the Dome. His section looks to be stronger with outstanding winter attendance and effort from the largest group we have ever worked with. Peter Blake who has consulted with our Band for the last three years joins us this year as our music arranger.
Our show selection for this year is the music from “Les Miserable’s.” We are looking to take a different approach to one of the greatest shows ever to appear on Broadway. Rather than trying to tell the story we will feature the music, in particular, some of the best music that is not as well known as the main themes.
We look forward to the start of the season. As always it will be up to our members to perform the show our staff has developed for them. It looks to be an exciting season. We have a lot to look forward to.
Once the season is over our “encore” will be our performance in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade. We have accomplished a lot. We now embark on the first step of another big journey!
