In 1998, after the Band had a great victory at Giants Stadium and a disappointing showing at the Dome, our Principal, Ben Dachs asked what
we needed to get back to the top in New York State. He was told that a Winterguard was needed. He supported the idea and a dream became
a slow reality. George Walsh from the Phanton Regiment organization brought some of his best girls to demonstrate “Winterguard” skills.
Our kids bought into the idea and Mr. Dachs supported the creation of our first Winterguard.
A member of the Phantom Regiment Staff, Lori Panullo volunteered her time and put together a staff that, by 2003, produced a guard that
was proclaimed the "WGI Southern New England Regional A Champions!" In 2004, Danielle Pallaldino, our choreographer was named as Advisor
to the guard (Danielle was one of those girls who watched the Phantom Regiment demonstration.) Tracy Bapst and David Bowen of the WGI Champion
"Patriots Colorguard" wrote and taught the guard show. Membership in the Mid York circuit was attained and the members of the made a name
for themselves. An assembly was held at the Copiague Middle School and more than 100 girls grades 6-11 came to Spring workouts. A Middle
School Winterguard will be competing in 2005 and great expectations are held for the 2005 Winter season.
Members of the Colorguard are not required to participate
in the winter; Winterguard members are obligated to participate in the Fall season.
